Aoife gave a presentation on healthy eating for children followed by a Q and A session that was appreciated and enjoyed by all present.
Well done to the organisers and a big thank to Aoife for her time.

Congrats to the U21 hurling team on winning the U21 county final in Nowlan Park

The U-6's opened with their first club match Thursday last in Slievrue. It was a very enjoyable evening for both child and parent, we look forward to their next match. The U-8's also attended and they too performed very well on the evening, they are all looking forward to the Mooncoin U-8 blitz in early July.
The U-10 team is progressing nicely having competed in the Kilkenny 'Go-Games' and the Ballyduff upper U-10 tournament which took place over two weekends. The lads enjoyed going to west Waterford to compete.
Thanks to Centra, a number of our under 10's had the opportunity to train with Henry Shefflin and John Mullane last Saturday morning in Nowlan Park The two lads were great giving their time to training and talking to our future stars
The under 11 team is still involved in the Waterford city league with one round of matches to be played. They are competing in the A league and are performing very well.
Our U-12's took part in the Tullogher tournament taking honours over Mulinavat on the last day. The Kilkenny U-12 league begins on the 23rd July. Best of Luck lads.
The Primary School's were beaten in the quarter final against Thomastown. They had a fantastic league campaign but were beaten by the better team on the day. A special thanks to Mr.Niall Tennyson for his coaching to the lads.
Paddy Grace Feile Under 14
The Paddy Grace feile under 14 qualifying group 1 was held in Mooncoin on Saturday. Mooncoin, John Lockes, Rower Inistioge and Danesfort participated on the day with the winner going on to the semi final on the following day. Mooncoin started the day with a match against a strong john lockes side who were too good for them on the day. In there second game they played the Rower Inistioge who looked very sharp early on and went into a good lead early on, however a stronger showing by Mooncoin in the second half made a better game of it but the Rower held on well to win. In our final game Mooncoin played Danesfort and this turned out to be one of the best matches of the day. With both teams already out of the competition great credit must go to all the players for the effort put in as they must have been tired from their efforts in the warm day. This game ended in a draw which was a fair result on the day. John lockes beat the Rower Inistioge in their final game to go on to the semi final stage. Great credit to the mooncoin lads on the day where they all put in a massive effort against some strong teams and will now look forward to the year ahead. A thank you must also go to the Mooncoin club who had the grounds looking very well on the day.

Rionn b Under 21 Hurling Championship 2008
Saturday 18th oct rionn b under 21 hurling championship mooncoin 1-20 dunamaggin 1-06
after the dissappointment of losing the intermediate semi the previous weekend, the
under 21 team turned in an impressive display in piltown, beating a dunamaggin side
that were beaten in almost every sector of the field, and were it not for some
excellent goal keeping by the dunamaggin net minder and some wayward shooting by
mooncoin the winning margin could have been even greater, but considering it was
there first outing together with the under21's it was an excellent display.they play
the winners of mullinavat and tullogher in the next round,no date for that game yet.
Minor Team
On Saturday, 27th September 2008 our minor team unfortunately came up against a formidable
dicksboro side and although they battled tirelessly they were unable to break down
the opposition,eventually losing on a scoreline of Dicksboro-0-18 Mooncoin 0-10. A big
thanks to all the players and management for the massive effort put in all year.
Intermediate Team
On Sunday, 28th September 2008 our intermediate team lined out in
mullinavat for the second time in sucessive weeks.having overcome the
challenge of thomastown in the first round they
now faced the inform Rower Inistioge for a place in the semi finals. an early goal
from dee mackey set up by sharp passes from k kirwin and ray wall gave mcoin a
cussion, which was needed as the rower got going after half time and drew level.but
in a hectic last quater mcoin finished winners by the narrowest of margins ,it
finished Mooncoin 1-13 The rower 1-12.

La na gClub
Mooncoin Camogie Club were proud to join with the Mooncoin Senior and Juvenile Clubs to celebrate the GAA’s 125th anniversary. This event, which took place on May 10th, involved a parade through the village to 11 o’ clock Mass, followed by a series of mini-games in the complex, with refreshments afterwards. The day was a huge success and a great promotion of our national games. Well done to all involved.
Brief Club History
A Camogie Club was first founded in Mooncoin in 1932. During the following decades, camogie and clubs in the parish had many ups and downs. A permanent club was finally established in 1977 and it is this very club that survives today after 32 years.
Some of the most notable achievements in Camogie include:
Senior Championship title 1959
Junior Championship titles 1968, 1979, 1988
Junior B Championship title 1991
The Club has prospered due to the hard work of many members down through the years, and this dedication and commitment still exists today. We hope it will bring us further success in the years to come.

U14 Hurling Championship Result: Mooncoin 5-9 Graigue/Ballycallan 7-2
"A great comeback for Mooncoin for a semi final place in the U14 Championship"
Mooncoin
made a great comeback to win this quarter final in Hugginstown.
Mooncoin played with a stiff wind in the first half, but it was the
Graigue players who got the better start with two early goals and a
point. Cormac Fleming got Mooncoin first score with a pointed free, then
goals from Sean Walsh and Sean Purcell got them level in this game. It
was tit for tat for the rest of the half with Graigue scoring 2-1 with
Sean Purcell scoring a further 3 points anda and Padraig Walsh scoring a
point. The score at half time was Mooncoin 2-5 Graigue/Ballycallan 4-2.
Mooncoin were under serious pressure early in the second half and they
conceded three goals. At this stage they looked to be defeated, but
they kept plugging away with points from a Fleming, Purcell and Patrick
Wall (who brought a great save out of the goalie who tipped it over the
bar). Mooncoin were now getting on top but they needed a goal, John
Fitzgerald scored a point and then scored a great goal. Mooncoin really
pushed on at this stage and were fighting for every ball. Their effort
was rewarded when Purcell scored another goal to win the match and to
cap a brilliant last 15 minutes.
Ethan Doyle, Ciaran Dillon Dunphy
and John Fitzgerald were the best of the backs. Cormac Fleming did his
best hurling when moved to centre back in the second half and all the
forwards worked hard particularly Sean Walsh, Andy Brennan, Tom Reddy
and the always dangerous Sean Purcell.

U10 Slieverue Tournament
Our
U10 team had excellent success in this tournament on Saturday 3rd
October. The won the shield final by beating Tullogher. On the way to
the Shield Final Mooncoin beat Slieverue and lost to Dicksboro, the
eventually winners of the tournament. Congratulations to all the players
who showed determination, effort and skill in these game. This was a
great finale to our u10 hurling season. We would like to thank Slieverue
GAA club for hosting an excellent event.
U8 Rower Inistioge Luke Roche Memorial Tournament
Our
U8 team also had greqat success at this tournament on Saturday 3rd
October. Mooncoin beat St. Mullins in their first game and drew with
Graiguenamanagh in their second game. All rested on the last game for a
place in the final. Mooncoin played a strong Thomastown team who
eventually won. However, Mooncoin were in the final of the shield and
played a great game of hurling against Ballyhale Shamrocks. It was a
close fought game with little scoring chances however Mooncoin defended
well and finally scored the winning goal to win the shield. Coaches,
parents and players would like to thank Rower Inistioge GAA for
organising a fantastic tournament. This well run event ensured that
players and supporters were well looked after. We would also like to
thank Michael Rice who did the presentations. This was a great
conclusion to a brilliant hurling season of training, challenge matches
and tournaments. A special word of thanks is needed to the coaches whose
dedication and time commitment to our youngest players has been
excellent.

particularly Ciaran Dillon Dunphy, John Fitzgerald, Niall Blanchfield,
Cormac Fleming, Andy Brennan and Sean Purcell.

Under 7, Under 8, Under 9 & Under 10 Teams
It
has been a busy few weeks for our youngest club members. Their coaches
have ensured they have had regular training with opportunities to play
in challenge matches and local tournaments.
The club would like
to thank Piltown and Windgap for visiting Mooncoin GAA complex to be
part of a series of challenge matches in the past fortnight. We have had
a great turnout of players, families and supporters. The standard of
ground hurling continues to improve with very close fought games between
the teams. The family support given to the young players is a real
source of encouragement and pride for them.
Our Under 8 team
played Ballyhale at Mooncoin in an exciting match which eventually saw
Ballyhale win. The two teams played skilful strong hurling with very
little separating them in the game.
Roanmore GAA Juvenile Tournament
Mooncoin
Juvenile GAA club would like to thank Roanmore GAA Club for organising
an excellent tournament on Saturday September 12th. Mooncoin were
represented by two under 8 teams and one under 9 teams. All the Mooncoin
teams played very well. The under 8 and under 9 success at the games
provided a boost in the confidence levels for individual players and
the teams as a whole. This is an excellently run event and Mooncoin were
delighted to be part of it. Our young players were delighted to collect
their medals in front of the cheering coaches and supporters.
August
Under 10 Challenge Games on August 29th
Our
under 10 players had a good outing at the Ballyhale Tournament on
August 29. After a hard fought match with Thomastown, where
unfortunately Mooncoin lost, we went into the shield competition. We met
Na Fianna from Dublin in the first round and came out victorious with
superb performances from all the players. Our third match of the day
proved difficult against an outstanding Craig Ballycallan team. Despite a
great team performance and a couple of excellent individual
performances Ballycallan beat us by a narrow margin.
The
Mooncoin players should be very proud of their hurling standard in these
games and unfortunately we just came up short on the day against in
form teams. Some consolation can be had from the fact, that the only 2
defeats of the day were at the hands of the eventual winners of both the
shield and the Cup. We wish to express our congratulations to both
Thomastown and Craig Ballycallan. Finally, on behalf of Mooncoin
Juvenile GAA Club we would like to thank to the Ballyhale GAA club on
organising an excellent event. It was a most enjoyable day. Over the
coming weeks we will be competing in other local tournaments and hope to
bring home some silverware back to our Club.
Finally,
congratulations to our Under 8 girls team that took part in a Camogie
Blitz at Slieverue. Mooncoin played Slieverue and The Rower Inistioge
emerging as eventually winners on the Blitz. This was an excellent
opportunity for the under 8 girls in the juvenile club to play together.
Mooncoin won all their games and with their coach Liam Delahunty, the
team accepted their medals with great excitement from their travelling
supporters!
Under 16 Hurling Championship Roinn B 1st Round
Mooncoin 4-10 Barrow Rangers 5-12
Mooncoin
went down to Barrow Rangers on Wednesday night (5th Aug) in an exciting
and closely contested match. On a fine but windy evening in Ballyhale,
it was Barrow Rangers playing against the breeze who opened the scoring
with a pointed free. This was quickly responded to by John Purcell
playing in midfield, also with a pointed free closely followed by a
lovely score from play. Scores were being exchanged on a regular basis
with Mooncoin growing into the match as the half wore on. The lads got
some great scores including a brilliant goal by Shane Walsh after great
play by Marcus Dunlea and Niall Madden to set it up. But disaster struck
just coming up to half time when a break down the right wing by Barrow
Rangers resulted in a dangerous ball across the goal which was knocked
into the net, undoing some of the hard work put in. The score at half
time read 2-7 to 1-5 with Mooncoin ahead.
Mooncoin started the second
half well by putting the pressure on from the word go. This was
rewarded by a goal from Mark Cuddihy which gave the team a timely boost.
But gradually, Barrow Rangers started to come back into the game and
after scoring another goal they were eating into Mooncoin's lead. For
the middle part of the second half it was Barrow Rangers' turn to apply
the pressure and they began to dominate the middle of the pitch and in
the half forward line taking their scores and going into the lead. It
looked like Mooncoin had weathered the storm though and were coming back
into the game when the excellent Liam O'Brien chipped in with a goal. A
coupe of points from John Purcell and a fine score from Aidan Treacy
brought the scores back to within 2 points. Mooncoin's hopes of catching
Barrow Rangers were all but ended however when a long ball dipped at
pace and hit the back of the Mooncoin net. The referee blew the whistle
for full time shortly after and the game was over.
Whilst the result
was very disappoint
